MPN Wins Steel Excellence Award

MPN Consulting is proud to have been awarded the Australian Steel Institute Queensland Award for Steel Design Excellence with the Robina Town Centre Market Hall Roof.

The structure is of a unique wave form which fulfilled QIC’s desire to create a unique food and lifestyle precinct expressed through a curved timber ceiling and raw material detailing. The design of the structural form and assembly addressed the aims of the project team including aesthetics, cost, program, buildability, staging and minimising operational disruption in a major shopping centre.

The Judges’ comments were “The project undertook a challenging design created to produce a lively and fluid form as seen from inside and outside the building.  The project demonstrates that intricate fluid roof shapes can be constructed using largely single elements, and in doing so, produce a skeletal structure of interest in itself.”

MPN’s design team included director Simon Pikusa and engineers Joshua Falco and Ethan Thomas. Crucial to the success of this project was the close and effective collaboration with:

  • Client: QIC
  • Creative Directors/Architect: Seventh Wave/ACME
  • Executive Architect: The Buchan Group
  • Interior Designers: Landini Associates
  • Main Contractor: ADCO
  • Steel Detailer: SteelCAD

The Brisbane Markets Roof, designed by MPN, was also entered at these awards.
