Westfield Carindale Redevelopment Stage 5

The project consisted of a $300 million extension to the existing retail centre.

The project consisted of a $300 million extension to the existing retail centre.

The project involved demolition of the Carindale Hotel at the North Eastern end of the centre, construction of new basement car parking, the addition of approximately 35,000 square meters of retail space over 2 levels, and rooftop car parking with associated vehicle ramps. Retail tenants included a relocation of Target, Coles, and approximately 80 new specialty tenancies, and a new feature fan roofed Glass House dining precinct. Key design constraints of the project delivered by MPN included:

  • The existing centre to remain operational with minimal disruption to existing tenants and shoppers.
  • Structural modification works to the existing centre including new penetrations for mall voids and vertical transport, infilling of existing voids, upgrading of the existing structure for increased design loads, and isolated column removal and relocations within tenancies and new malls.
  • Structural framing systems that eliminated structural bracing within retail areas for maximum future layout flexibility.
  • Structural allowance for future extension.
